THC has long been used recreationally and has become increasingly popular in the past years. In the past few months THC- O acetate, a new synthetic hemp-derived compound, has been gaining the attention of consumers in the industry.

What is THC- O?

THC- O acetate, known as THC- O, is produced from a series of extractions. The process starts with hemp, which is the part of cannabis that is very low in THC. The first step is the extraction of CBD. Then, delta- 8 THC is extracted from CBD. Combining this with acetic anhydride in a lab yields the highly potent product of THC- O.

How Potent is THC- O?

Due to the way of its creation, THC- O is three times more potent than delta- 9 THC. This means that it is much more concentrated than anything else on the market. THC- O is an easily absorbed compound of THC. It passes through the liver quickly and is absorbed directly by the cells in the lungs shortly after.

Although there have been no known deaths caused by THC, it’s extremely important to exercise caution when using THC- O due to its strength. Overconsumption can amplify negative effects of THC, causing a bad trip.

Is THC- O Safe For Consumption?

Research has shown that THC- O is a “prodrug” which means that it is a compound that is not activated until metabolization. It typically takes about 20- 30 minutes to kick in.

Aside from being careful about overconsumption, it is also extremely important to ensure that THC- O is bought from trustworthy sources. Because research on the compound is still ongoing and in its early stages, there is a current lack of regulation. There is also a wide variance in product quality on the market and companies that use clean, pharmaceutical grade reagents and care during manufacturing are key.

Is THC- O More Like Sativa Or Indica?

Everybody has a different reaction to THC strains and varied neurological effects due to different biochemistries. It has been said that THC- O is smooth on the inhale- noticeably smoother than delta strains of THC.

It has also been described as having a “classic euphoric effect,” providing a mood lift while promoting relaxation. Many report it to be very much like a true hybrid and prefer to use THC- O in the evening.

Is THC- O legal?

Legally, the Farm Bill legalized the cultivation of hemp which is defined as all parts of cannabis plants, including isomers and derivatives. THC- O is a derivative of hemp so it is federally protected. It’s legality has been debated but unless states have specifically outlawed these substances, it is legal by federal laws.

The takeaway: THC- O is a legal compound rising in popularity that is 3 times more potent than delta-9 and is safe when sourced right.
