If you’re familiar with cannabis, you’re probably acquainted with the two most famous cannabinoids: THC and CBD. But the cannabis plant produces hundreds of other cannabinoids. One of the minor ones is CBN, the new cannabinoid with medicinal properties.

So, we would like to introduce CBN so you’re not lost amongst all of the new cannabinoids.

CBN, unlike THC, does not intoxicate you. CBN is created when THC ages. Therefore, older cannabis plants contain much higher concentrations of CBN. In fact, some farmers purposely seek out aged cannabis plants to extract more CBN.

While CBN is still being researched, here are the myriad of medical benefits CBN provides for the human body.

Antibacterial Properties

Many studies on CBN have discovered that CBN may actually be a strong antibacterial agent. In strains of MRSA bacteria that cannot be treated with traditional antibiotics, researchers found that CBN was an effective antibacterial against these strains.

Neuroprotective Properties

CBN may also have neuroprotective properties. In one study, CBN was used as a treatment for ALS, and it was found to be able to delay the condition.

Appetite stimulation

CBN has also been found to increase appetite. Since THC is avoided by some due to the intoxicating effects, CBN is a great alternative that offers similar benefits without the “high.”

Glaucoma

CBN can possibly be used for those with glaucoma. CBN (and THC) lowers intraocular pressure, one of the most significant risk factors for glaucoma.

Anti-inflammatory

CBN has also been found to be an effective anti-imflammatory. This is useful for patients with rheumatoid arthritis. In one study, CBN reduced arthritis in rodents.

Popular myths about CBN

You’re probably wondering why we haven’t mentioned the sedating effects that everyone talks about. In reality, CBN itself does not necessarily give the sedating effects. Rather, the terpenes from the aged cannabis plants can account for the sedation. Furthermore, many CBN products are mixed with some form of THC, which is the molecule that makes you sleepy. Both of the compounds combined provided even more sedative effects than using the single compounds alone.

Where to buy CBN

While there aren’t many CBN products on the market yet, DazeD8 offers their Granddaddy Purple CBN+Delta-8 disposable, which is third-party lab tested with certificates of analysis.

Be aware of the other CBN products on the market, checking the producers to verify that they have lab tests and certifications.
